Our clinic can provide consultations about Fraxel® non-ablative fractional laser. During consultation, a practitioner will assess your concerns, review your medical history and discuss whether any cosmetic procedure may be appropriate.

Fraxel® is a non-ablative fractional laser procedure that treats small fractions of the skin at a time using controlled laser energy in a clinical setting.

Any change in appearance, and how noticeable it is, varies between individuals and cannot be guaranteed.

Fraxel® Laser (Non-Ablative Fractional)

What may be discussed in consultation

For suitable individuals, consultation may address concerns relating to:

  • the appearance of uneven skin tone

  • the appearance of surface texture variations

  • the appearance of selected mild or superficial scars

These concerns are assessed during consultation to determine whether Fraxel® laser, another cosmetic procedure, or no procedure may be appropriate.

How treatment planning works

During consultation, your practitioner will:

  • review your medical history, medications and relevant skin history

  • examine the treatment area

  • discuss your concerns and expectations

  • explain the possible procedure, its limitations and alternative options, including choosing not to proceed

Fraxel® laser delivers controlled columns of laser energy into selected layers of the skin while surrounding areas remain untreated.

Treatment planning, including laser settings, treatment areas and number of sessions, is determined after consultation and clinical assessment.

In some cases, your practitioner may recommend an alternative approach or no procedure.

Safety, Risks and Aftercare

All cosmetic procedures carry risks and may not be suitable for everyone.

Before any procedure is performed, your practitioner will:

  • review your medical history, medications and relevant health information

  • examine the treatment area

  • explain the proposed procedure, limitations and alternatives, including choosing not to proceed

  • discuss possible risks and side effects, including less common but more serious complications

Risks associated with procedures may include:

  • redness or swelling

  • dryness or peeling

  • skin sensitivity or irritation

  • pigmentation changes

  • infection or delayed healing

  • temporary muscle weakness

  • uneven or unexpected aesthetic outcomes

Pain and comfort levels vary between individuals and depend on the procedure used. Some procedures may cause sensations such as warmth, tingling, tightness, discomfort or pressure during or after treatment.

Written aftercare instructions will be provided if treatment is performed.

Frequently Asked Questions

We’re all about transparency and want to provide you with the information you need to make informed decisions about your aesthetic journey. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please reach out – our knowledgeable team is here to assist you every step of the way.

  • For suitable individuals, Fraxel® may help address the appearance of uneven tone, rough or sun-damaged texture and some types of mild, superficial scarring. The degree of change varies between people and cannot be guaranteed.

  • Topical anaesthetic cream and cooling measures are commonly used to help reduce discomfort. Your practitioner will explain what to expect for your specific settings and treatment area.

  • Recovery time depends on the intensity of treatment and your skin type. Your practitioner will outline a likely timeframe for your plan, but individual experiences vary.

  • The number of sessions depends on your concerns, skin type and how you respond. Your practitioner will recommend a course based on your assessment, but specific outcomes or an exact number of sessions cannot be guaranteed.

  • Common effects include redness, swelling, warmth, bronzing, peeling and darkening of the skin. Less common risks include infection, persistent redness, prolonged pigment change (either darker or lighter patches) or scarring. Your practitioner will discuss these risks in the context of your medical history and skin type.

  • Fraxel® is sometimes integrated into a broader plan that may include LED or chemical peels, but timing and sequencing must be carefully managed to support safety and recovery. Your practitioner will advise which combinations, if any, are appropriate for you and when they should be scheduled.

  • Fractional laser is generally not recommended for people with active infection, open wounds, certain skin diseases, recent significant sunburn, some medications (including recent oral isotretinoin), a history of abnormal scarring, or other specific medical conditions. Your practitioner will assess your suitability and may recommend no laser treatment or referral if needed.

  • You will be given specific written instructions, but aftercare commonly includes gentle cleansing, frequent moisturising, strict sun protection with SPF 50+, and avoiding heat, picking and harsh products while the skin heals. Following these instructions helps support recovery and may reduce the risk of complications.
